Remarkable mobility in Syria
The military operation that Turkey plans to organize in northern Syria retains its place on the agenda, while military mobility in the region has gained momentum. Russia and Syria have held joint military exercises in the region.
The possibility of Turkey conducting operations in northern Syria remains on the agenda. Finally, it was announced that AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would travel to Russia on August 5 and hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. An important piece of news came from the region before Erdogan’s visit to Putin.
Syria’s official news agency SANA announced that the Syrian and Russian armies were holding a joint exercise. In the exercise, which was reportedly held at midnight, Syrian army soldiers parachuted out of fighter jets along with Russian instructors.
The Assad administration said following about the exercise, “Joint exercises are one of the joint tasks carried out by the two armies in the context of the fight against terrorism. The recent exercise has also shown the extent of harmony between the two friendly sides.”
Turkey seems to be walking a tightrope in the region and an eventual wrong action to be taken in Syria could cause Turkey to pay a big bill, in the end. It is certainly time to act with foresight and caution, thus bringing the current administration a major responsibility.
