Research results by union: Poverty line in Turkey exceeds 50,000 liras

According to TÜRK-İŞ’s research on the hunger and poverty line for February; while the hunger threshold is 16,257 liras, the poverty line has exceeded 50,000 liras. The ‘cost of living’ for a single employee has also increased to 21,189 TL per month.

The results of the research, which has been regularly calculated and announced every month for 37 years by the TÜRK-İŞ Confederation and has the quality of being the first and pioneering in its field, were announced for February 2024. According to this; The ‘poverty line’, which corresponds to the total amount of mandatory expenses for food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, health, and similar needs, was 52,955 TL. This figure was 49,019 TL in the previous month.

According to the research, the ‘hunger threshold’, which represents the amount of food expenditure required for a healthy, balanced, and sufficient diet for a family of 4 in December, increased to 16,257 TL.

According to the Confederation’s study, food prices increased by 8.03% monthly and 72.49% annually in February.
