Results of 2023 elections: Does Turkey want President Erdogan to continue?

Millions of people at home and abroad went to the polls on May 14 to elect the president and new members of parliament who will serve for 5 years. As expressed by some opinion leaders, unofficial results revealed the fact that more than 50 percent of citizens do not want Erdogan.

60 Million voters in Turkey were at the polls the previous day. More than 191 thousand polling stations were established in 973 districts and 1094 district election boards throughout Turkey for the elections.

The voting process started at 08.00. 60 Million 697 thousand 843 voters in the country were able to vote until 17.00 in the evening.

Based on data provided by AA the results were as follows:

Recep Tayyip Erdogan: 49,24
Kemal Kilicdaroglu: 45,06

THE DATA DEBATE

The Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) announced that the election bans had been lifted as of 18.30 the previous evening after which a new discussion began with conflicting data from ANKA and the Anadolu Agency (AA).

AA started Erdogan in the race with a rate close to 59 percent. In ANKA (agency), the Nation Alliance presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu appeared to be ahead for a long time.

IMM President Ekrem Imamoğlu and ABB President Mansur Yavaş, who made regular statements throughout the night, urged citizens not to leave the polling stations and said that AA should not manipulate.

DOES TURKEY WANT ERDOGAN TO CONTINUE?

Based on unofficial results some experts said more than 50 percent of citizens did not want Erdogan to continue. In the face of the most recent picture, the election will be going to the second round, where Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu will face off.

Although the results are not heartwarming from the opposition’s point of view, they do not look very bright from the point of view of the government either. The AKP and the People’s Alliance bloc failed to gain the support of the majority of the people despite all the black (and with some fake info) propaganda they carried out against the opposition during the election process.

The People’s Alliance illegally is said to have used all the possibilities of the state with the power of government in its favor and recklessly pursued the policy of exploiting religious and national sensitivities during the campaign. (Cumhuriyet)
