Russia withdraws from Kherson in southern Ukraine

The Russian Defense Ministry says it has completed withdrawing its troops from the western bank of the Dnieper River in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine. The withdrawal from Kherson is considered one of the turning points of the war, but according to analysts, this withdrawal does not mean that Russia has lost the war.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the completion of the withdrawal from the Kherson region of Ukraine.

In a statement made by Russia’s state news agencies, the ministry said the withdrawal had been completed at 05.00 local time on Friday and not a single piece of military equipment had been left.

Among the areas where the Russian army has decamped is the city of Kherson, the only regional capital that Moscow captured during the 9-month occupation of Ukraine.

However, the Kremlin insisted that the withdrawal in no way constituted an embarrassment for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov told reporters that Moscow continues to consider the Kherson region as part of Russia.
