RUSSIAN TOURISTS IN TURKEY

It is reported that as borders with many countries are still closed, Russian tourists have mostly spent their holidays in Turkey and on domestic beaches, this summer.

An online newspaper wrote during the 2021 summer, tourism had remained below the sales figures recorded in 2019 before the crisis. Compared to 2019, the turnover loss is reported to be between 30-35 per cent. Officials in the sector told the newspaper that destinations that were among the favorites of Russian tourists, such as Italy and Spain, were still closed.

Based on data provided by another Russian establishment in the tourism sector, 1 out of every 2 Russian tourists who went abroad this summer made their holidays in Turkey. According to same source some tour companies have recovered their turnover thanks to tours to countries such as relatively expensive Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Cuba and the Maldives.

Another notable development this summer was the increase in holiday spending by Russian tourists due to inflation. The average price of bookings over 2019 has increased by 9 per cent. The growth rate in the direction of Turkey was 17 percent.
