Sanction warning to Turkish companies and banks from USA

The USA has warned that Turkish companies and banks that do business with Russian institutions and individuals on the US sanctions list will face sanctions.

Turkey continues its commercial and economic activities with Russia which declared war on Ukraine on February 24, despite the heavy sanctions applied the West. For this reason, the news that the West is discussing imposing sanctions on Turkey remains on the agenda, while a similar warning came from the US front.

WARNING TO BANKS

According to a prominent newspaper in USA, a letter signed by U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo was sent to TUSIAD (Association of Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists) as well as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Turkey. The letter said that companies doing business with Russian institutions and individuals, which the United States has imposed sanctions on due to the invasion of Ukraine, face the risk of sanctions.

The letter also stressed that Turkish banks that do business with Russian banks cannot continue to do business with US banks.

Adeyamo, who came to Turkey in June, also spoke by phone with Yunus Elitas, Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance, this weekend. In a statement about the meeting, the US stated that Russian institutions and individuals were trying to circumvent sanctions by using Turkey and stated that Turkey had been warned about this.
