Sivas incident in Turkey .. and a TRUE SHAME for humanity
The undesired (but much expected) prospect has come true and several suspects alleged for causing deaths of 35 people in a fire at a hotel in Sivas town of Turkey in 1993 have been released after the court dropped the case today, due to statute of limitations.
Thus, the hope to further conduct the investigation to get to the brains(instigators) who organized the shameful event behind the scene has vanished.
Many aggrieved people who have lost their beloved ones in said shameful event and wishing to protest this unacceptable force-majeure situation have been repelled by the police using teargas – The state has shown its power to secure order.
The decision announced by the court is to be taken to Council of State for an appeal and to European Court for Human Rights if need be (which is where the issue is likely to be heading actually).
Regardless of what the outcome is, one thing is for sure; This massacre undertaken by fundementalist terrorists in Sivas in 1993 will not be forgotten and is bound to hang like a flag of “DISGRACE” over the Republic of Turkey.
And no matter how hard the administration(s) tries to run a propoganda on the int’l level to make people believe that Turkey is a democratic country where human rights and freedom of speech prevail and citizens can rely on judicary as an assurence of their existence, what has happened in Sivas and its consequences will always be used to slam the country of Turkey by third parties on the int’l arena.
