Turkey’s unemployment rate down to 9.8 percent in December 2011

UNEMPLOYEDTo comply with several positive indicators regarding econony in Turkey, unemployment rate dropped 1.6 points year-on-year to 9.8percent in December 2011 as announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

In spite of the recession still in effect in several European countries Turkey has managed  to improve its unemployment figures.

Accordinglyrate of joblessness in urban areas has dropped 2 points to 11.5 percent, while rural areas has seen  a 0.7 point decline to 6.5 percent when compared with the same month of 2010.

Against the figure of 22.6 million in December 2010, the number of employed people in the country was calculated to be 23.6 million as of last December.

The AKP in office has been receiving much criticism in regards to political practices mainly whereas it is also observed a considerable support is extended to the government in consideration of its economical achievements
