TUIK announces price indexes for October 2012

Consumer Price Index October 2012

Monthly change in CPI was realised by 1,96%.

A rise in general index was realised in the 2003 based Consumer Price Index on the previous month by 1,96%, on December of the previous year by 5,36%, on same month of the previous year by 7,80%, on the twelve months moving averages basis by 9,53% in October 2012.

The highest monthly increase was 6,81% in the index for clothing and footwear by main expenditure groups. The indices rose for housing 3,31%, for transportation 2,06%, for food and non-alcoholic beverages 1,66%, for communications 1,30%, for miscellaneous goods and services 0,78%, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 0,67%, for furnishings and household equipment 0,50%, for alcoholic beverages and tobacco 0,48%, for education 0,28%, for health 0,04% while the index declined for recreation and culture 0,20%.

The highest increase was 11,75% in the index for housing compared with the same month of the previous year. Miscellaneous goods and services (10,70%), hotels, cafes and restaurants (9,39%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (7,87%) were the other indices where high increases were realised.

The highest monthly increase in CPI by regional basis was in TR22 (Balıkesir, Çanakkale) region (2,39%). The highest increases in CPI were recorded in TR10 (İstanbul) region (6,02%) compared with the December of the previous year, TR10 (İstanbul) region (8,62%) compared with the same month of the previous year and in TR71 (Kırıkkale, Aksaray, Niğde, Nevşehir, Kırşehir) region (11,00%) on the twelve months moving averages basis.

In October 2012 within average prices of 444 items in the index, average prices of 75 items remained unchanged while average prices of 290 items increased and average prices of 79 items decreased.

Producer Price Index October 2012

Monthly change in PPI was realised by 0,17%.

A rise in general index was realised in the 2003 based Producer Price Index on the previous month by 0,17%, on December of the previous year by 0,90%, on same month of the previous year by 2,57% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 7,80% in October 2012.

Monthly changes were 0,02% in the index of agriculture and 0,21% in the index of industry.

PPI of agriculture decreased 0,86% compared with December of the previous year, increased 7,81% compared with the same month of the previous year, 7,85% on the averages of twelve months basis. PPI of industry section increased 1,27% compared with December of the previous year, 1,59% compared with the same month of the previous year and 7,80% on the averages of twelve months basis.

The highest monthly increase in the PPI of industrial activities was recorded 3,15% in the index for wearing apparel.
PPI increased 0,37% in the index for manufacturing, and decreased 0,12% in the index for mining and stone quarrying, decreased 1,01% in the index for electricity, gas and water.

The high rates of monthly increase in PPI by sub divisions were in the industrial price indices for wearing apparel (3,15%), for crude petroleum and natural gas production (1,38%), for textile products (1,10%), for wood products (1,06%), for non-metalic products (0,82%), for motor vehicles (0,76%), for water (0,73%), paper and paper products (0,72%), for food products and beverages (0,67%).

On the other hand indices declined for metallic minerals (-2,48%), for communication equipment (-2,34%), for office accounting computing machinery (-1,83%), for coke and refined petroleum (-1,53%), for medical, precision,optical instruments (-1,40%), for basic metal industry (-1,29%), for electricity and gas (-1,22%).

In October 2012 within average prices of 791 items in the index, average prices of 181 items remained unchanged while average prices of 378 items increased and average prices of 232 items decreased.
