Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul removed from office after being arrested
İmamoğlu was detained in a “corruption” investigation, while he had previously been released in a “terror” investigation. Following his removal, the CHP group in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (which holds the majority) will choose a new representative from among themselves.
Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan was detained in a “terror” investigation, and Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık was detained in a “corruption” investigation.
The Ministry of Interior announced that all three mayors had been removed from their positions. Additionally, Şişli Kaymakam (district governor) Cevdet Ertürkmen has been appointed as a trustee to take over Şişli Municipality.
