FISH PRICES GO UP

Snowfall and thunderstorms were effective in the Marmara region, causing a decrease in quantity of fish in the stalls. Fishermen who cannot go hunting due to weather conditions expect prices to fall as temperatures rise.

As snowfall and thunderstorms have recently caused quantity of fish to decline on stalls, serious hikes in fish prices have been observed.

Fishermen hope that weather conditions will improve and there will be plenty of fish on stalls ahead of the hunting ban, which will start on April 15. Shopkeepers at Karaköy fish market say that the price of fish will fall even further during hunting period.

A fisherman has said that hunting is difficult due to the adverse conditions of the weather adding “fish like cold water. They come to the surface in snowfall. But fishermen can’t go hunting. We expect plenty of fish before the ban on hunting begins on April 15. Currently, the kilo price of anchovies is about TL 35. As the weather improves, we think plenty of anchovies will be hunted and prices will fall.”
