Some homes and 3 hotels near the blaze evacuated as fire grows in Bodrum

Some homes near the blaze were evacuated after the fire had started around noon in Bodrum. On the other hand, 3 hotels were evacuated in the area where hotels are located in the district of Icmeler.

An aerial helicopter responded to the fire, while police teams alerted citizens in the Umurca and Kumbahçe neighborhoods and asked them to move away from the area.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the area as the fire started at multiple locations and are checking to see if there is any suspicious circumstances.

THERE WAS PANIC AS HOTELS WERE EVACUATED

Homes and hotels threatened by the flames were evacuated during the fire which started at noon in Bodrum and spread quickly under the influence of the wind.

At about 14: 30, three hotels in the Icmeler area were evacuated with warnings from police. The panic in those moments, the efforts of local and foreign tourists to leave the region, was recorded by citizens.

After a while, the flames in the area lost effect. Efforts to contain and extinguish the fire continued.

FLAMES REACH SHIPYARDS AREA; 3 HOTELS EVACUATED

The flames reached the area of shipyards and hotels in the neighborhood of Içmeler. Police teams evacuated 3 5-star hotels. Fire crews and forest landowners responded from the ground and 1 helicopter sent as reinforcements intervened from the air to extinquish the flames.

Employees at the shipyard also supported the extinguishing efforts by squeezing water with hoses. As the wind also changed direction, the flames headed towards the KIZILAGAC neighborhood. The fire, which is effective in a wide area, is experiencing flare-ups in different areas due to the constant change of direction of the wind, giving the extinguishing teams a difficult time. Thick smoke also complicates the work.

TOURISTS EVACUATED BY BOATS, PANIC AS FLAMES APPROACH HOTEL

Tourists at a hotel in the neighborhood of Icmeler experienced great panic due to flames approaching the hotel 20 meters away. There was a brief panic on Icmeler Street as tourists who took their bags emptied the hotel. Municipality and police teams closed the traffic to Içmeler Street as flames threatened the shipyards, and dozens of ambulances were dispatched to the area.
