New proposal from mayor of Bolu who suggested to raise water bill for refugees

Ozcan, the mayor of Bolu wants a referendum for immigrants and says following; “the Parliament needs to create a state policy. If necessary, let’s ask the public whether the migrants should stay or leave. Let’s put the referendum ballot box and let the people decide. I know the answer and if the hearts of those who expect a different answer are strong enough (they have enough courage), let them bring the ballot box.”

Ozcan says; “After being elected mayor, I removed my CHP (main opposition) badge, and and my words do not bind my party (CHP).”

The mayor explains that the investigation launched against him earlier for cutting off aid to foreigners has also ended in non-follow-up. “I will also raise the issue of iIncrease in water and solid waste tax”  in the city council” Ozcan said:
“I’m determined. I’ll give it as my motion. There are AKP, CHP, MHP and Good Party members in our city council. I’ll explain my motive to them and say the decision is yours. If a state policy cannot be developed on this issue, I can ask for additional measures so that Turkey, which cannot take a concrete step on this question of survival, can discuss it again.”

Ozcan went on to say; “But I’m not taking any new steps right now. My request was that this issue be discussed and it is being discussed. I have no animosity towards anyone, we accept it as our religious brother, but this hospitality has gone on too long. It’s starting to go to other places.”

“Are there any women and children among those who have decamped from Afghanistan? They’re just warrior tribes. They did nothing but fight. They’re not machine technicians, they don’t have any profession. A day will come when the government will say ‘The number of migrants is too many to handle. We can’t stand this burden anymore. We are cutting benefits etc.’ What will happen then?

“First they’ll start begging, and then they’ll start to force people pay money, rob them. My concern is this. Let them (the authority) guarantee it to me. I’ll shut up and never speak again.“
