FIRE BURNED DOWN BY TENANT

In Kayseri, a tenant who was being evicted set his residence on fire and then fled. The landlord, who stated that approximately 200,000 TL worth of damage was caused, demanded that the tenant be found and held responsible for the losses.

The tenant who lives in Kayseri, stated that he had had rented his house in the Osmanlı Neighborhood (of Melikgazi district) to two foreign nationals whom he felt sorry for their situation. He mentioned that due to increasing complaints from neighbors, he had intended to evict the individuals from the house, and upon their refusal to leave, he had informed them that he would take the matter to court. Consequently, they set the house on fire and fled. He noted that significant damage had occurred to the house and demanded the apprehension of the individual responsible for the arson.

“I WANT THEM TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES”

Ismail Aksoy stated, “This is my house. Two young individuals of foreign nationality came and told me that they couldn’t find a place to live, that they were in a difficult situation, and that they intended to find work and start anew. I sympathized with their situation and agreed to rent the house to them. One of the two friends left, and the other stayed. I heard from the neighbors that the person named Hasan, who was staying here, was gathering groups of friends and disturbing the neighbors. The neighbor downstairs informed me that around 1-2 in the morning, luxury cars would arrive with people who used narcotics. I wanted to evict this person. He told me, ‘I’m not leaving, you can go to the police if you want.’ After I told him I would take legal action, he set fire to two separate rooms in the house and left. Yesterday morning at 5:20, a neighbor called and informed me that the house was on fire. My wife and I came and fought the fire until the fire department arrived. Our house burned down. One of the individuals contacted me and said he had nothing to do with it. I know that the person named Hasan did it. I want him to be caught, brought before the court, and face the consequences. I also demand reimbursement for my expenses from this individual. We invested years of effort to acquire this place. My wife and I work together. There are expenses of around 150,000-200,000 TL here.”
