Turkey is roasting: “10th hottest July in last 53 Years”

According to the temperature report from the Meteorology General Directorate, July became the 10th hottest July in the last 53 years with an average temperature of 25.7 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperature, measuring 47.5 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Cizre, while the lowest temperature, 1.1 degrees Celsius, was observed in Kangal. Extreme temperatures were experienced in 12 points across Turkey.

According to the ‘Temperature and Precipitation Assessment Report’ prepared by the Meteorology General Directorate for July 2023, the long-term average temperature for July, based on the years from 1991 to 2020, was 25 degrees Celsius. However, the average temperature for July 2023 rose to 25.7 degrees Celsius. The average maximum temperatures for July 2023 were 0.7 degrees above the 1991-2020 maximum normal, while the average minimum temperatures were 0.1 degrees higher than the 1991-2020 minimum norms. July 2023 entered the records as the 10th hottest July in the last 53 years. Among the past 53 years, July 2023 became the 10th hottest July, with 2000 recording 26.5 degrees, 2021 with 26.3 degrees, 2012 with 26.2 degrees, 2017 with 26.1 degrees, 2001 with 26 degrees, and 2010 and 2020 with 25.9 degrees, and 2007 and 2018 with 25.8 degrees.
