The joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, SunExpress, has signed an agreement with Boeing for the purchase of 90 aircraft. The airline, with the order of up to 90 Boeing aircraft announced at the 2023 Dubai Airshow, will more than double its fleet in the next decade.

The agreement includes the possibility of purchasing 28 Boeing 737-8 and 17 737-10 model aircraft, as well as up to 45 737 MAX aircraft. The deal, covering 45 Boeing 737-8 and 737-10 model aircraft, also offers the option to purchase up to 45 additional planes.

SunExpress plans to grow its 737 fleet to more than double within the next decade, reaching 150 aircraft

SunExpress CEO Max Kownatzki commented on the agreement, stating, “Following the successful strategy put forward by SunExpress in the post-pandemic period, the airline is preparing to accelerate its growth to meet market demand and have a broader international impact. Within the next decade, we will more than double our fleet to reach a 150-aircraft fleet by 2033. Additionally, the joining of the newest 737 MAX aircraft with 230 seats, the 737-10, will further strengthen our capacity. SunExpress is preparing for the future with strength. While expanding our network with our fuel-efficient and environmentally sustainable aircraft fleet, we will continue to contribute as Turkey’s tourism ambassador.”

SunExpress has added this new agreement with Boeing to the 42 Boeing 737-8 orders, nine of which have already been delivered.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stan Deal stated, “SunExpress continuing to choose the 737 MAX reflects confidence in the aircraft’s ability to meet passenger demand for travel to Turkey and other popular destinations. The 737 MAX has proven itself in the SunExpress flight network, creating value with its unique fuel efficiency and performance.”

Operating direct connections between popular holiday destinations in Europe and Turkey and flying to 175 destinations in 30 countries, SunExpress carried approximately 11 million passengers in 2022.
