SunExpress sets passenger record with additional capacity and 15 new routes coming

SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, achieved a record by carrying nearly 10 million passengers in the first three quarters of 2023. With over 2,000 additional flights planned by year-end, they are supporting the extended tourism season.

Max Kownatzki, CEO of SunExpress, and Tuncay Eminoğlu, Deputy General Manager, made statements about the airline’s performance in 2023 and its plans for the winter season.

During the meeting, it was mentioned that SunExpress had carried approximately 10 million passengers since the beginning of 2023 and had increased its capacity for the October-December period after September to meet the continued demand following the summer season. It was also expressed that the additional capacity created until the end of the year amounted to over 2,000 flights.

2023 EXPECTED TO BE ANOTHER YEAR FOR RECORDS IN PASSENGER NUMBERS

Max Kownatzki, CEO of SunExpress, stated the following in his speech during the meeting: “With an occupancy rate of 88%, we set a new record by carrying nearly 10 million passengers in the first three quarters of 2023. We have exceeded our target in terms of passenger traffic, and we anticipate surpassing our goal of 12 million passengers by the end of the year. We have increased our capacity to meet the ongoing demand for Turkey after the summer, and we have planned more than 2,000 additional flights by year-end, contributing to Turkey’s goal of attracting 60 million tourists this year.”

ADDITIONAL CAPACITY AND 15 NEW ROUTES FOR WINTER SEASON

Kownatzki emphasized SunExpress’s commitment to Turkey as a prominent tourism destination not only during the summer season but throughout the year, highlighting its history, nature, local cuisine, and sports tourism infrastructure as key attractions.

Kownatzki stated, “To extend tourism throughout the year, we have increased our winter capacity and added 15 new routes to our flight network this year. This winter, we will connect new and beautiful destinations such as Skopje, Abu Dhabi, Sharm El-Sheikh, Sofia, Krakow, and Cyprus with Antalya and Izmir.”
