Tax increase of approximately two liras on gasoline and diesel based on inflation data
After the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the inflation data for the first six months, a tax increase of approximately two liras each was imposed on gasoline and diesel. The Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) on cigarettes and alcohol increased by 19.49%.
According to the presidential decree published on July 16, 2023, the fixed ÖTV amounts on fuel were increased by five liras each, and it was announced that these amounts would be adjusted semi-annually based on the Producer Price Index (PPI) increase rate.
According to Bloomberg HT, the fixed ÖTV amounts on gasoline, diesel, and autogas (LPG) were increased by the six-month producer inflation rate. The tax increase on gasoline and diesel was approximately two liras. TÜİK calculated the six-month producer inflation at 19.49%.
The ÖTV amounts per liter increased by 19.49%, from 8.86 liras to 10.59 liras for diesel, and from 9.45 liras to 11.29 liras for gasoline. For autogas, the amount rose to 8.67 liras. Additionally, a 20% VAT will be added to these increases.
Consequently, there was an increase of
2.07 liras for diesel
2.21 liras for gasoline
and 0.95 liras for autogas.
After the ÖTV increase, the per-liter prices of gasoline in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir became approximately 44.70, 45.70, and 46.06 liras, respectively.
The per-liter prices of diesel rose to approximately 44.60 in Istanbul, 45.63 in Ankara, and 46.00 in Izmir. Prices may vary between cities, districts, and dealers.
Additionally, the decree increased the prices of tobacco-containing cigarettes and alcoholic products by the six-month producer inflation rate announced by TÜİK.
