Telegram breaks record in number of users after WhatsApp announces new terms of use

WhatsApp, which is preparing to change its terms of use, is preparing to impose a ban on users who do not share their data with Facebook. After this decision which has been one of the most talked about topics of social media for days, many users have turned to alternative applications. One of those applications is Telegram which has reached a record number of users.

Facebook’s WhatsApp has announced a decision that its users have not been very fond of. The messaging platform, which is preparing to change its terms of use has announced it will impose a ban on users who do not share their data with Facebook.

After the decision which drew a reaction in a short time, many users turned to alternative applications. One of those apps, Telegram, broke a record in the number of users. Telegram has reached 25 million new users in the last 72 hours.

Pavel DUROV, the founder of Telegram has said, “In the last 72 hours, we have accessed 25 million new users. With half a billion active users, Telegram has become the biggest haven for those looking for a communications platform dedicated to privacy and security.

Of those 25 million, 38 percent have come from Asia, 27 percent from Europe, 21 percent from Latin America and 8 percent from the Middle East and Africa region. That’s a significant increase from last year, when 1.5 million new users signed up every day.”
