NIGHT MUSEUM PROJECT IN TURKEY

The Turkey Night Museum project, implemented at the Hierapolis Archaeological Site, is leading the world tourism along with Jordan’s Petra Ancient City and Italy’s Pompeii Ancient City.

The launch of the “Night Museum” project, which will bring Turkey’s unique historical sites and rich cultural heritage to visitors in a completely different atmosphere after sunset, was held at the Hierapolis Archaeological Site in Denizli with the participation of officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and state protocol. Since 2018, SICPA Turkey, which has undertaken ticket design and sales channels for over 70 museums, has illuminated Hierapolis, and now it can be visited in the evenings as well.

Sami Çebi, the General Manager of SICPA Turkey, said that they successfully implemented the night museum project, which the Ministry attaches great importance to, at the Hierapolis Archaeological Site within the targeted timeframe. “We believe that the “night museum project”, which will contribute greatly to the diversity of tourism in our country, will bring a new breath to Turkish Tourism and will also make a significant contribution to increasing tourism revenues,” he said.

Hierapolis Ancient City, including Hierapolis, where night museum project has started, was visited by a total of 2.2 million tourists in 2023, including 1 million foreigners.

Pamukkale, including Hierapolis, where night museum has started, is the third most visited archaeological site nationwide. While the total number of visitors to the museums served by SICPA in 2023 reached 25 million, 2.2 million of them were those who visited only Hierapolis. “In addition to our ongoing projects as SICPA Turkey, the night museum project we completed in Pamukkale is of particular importance to us.

Because we believe that Pamukkale night museum practice, which will contribute greatly to the diversity of tourism in our country, has increased the opening hours of Hierapolis Archaeological Site, which has been undergoing archaeological excavations for 67 years and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1988. Especially in the summer months, local and foreign tourists who cannot visit these places during the day due to the heat, can now have the opportunity to visit them safely at night,” said Çebi, adding that visiting an illuminated ancient city at night will create a different experience and excitement for both local and foreign tourists.
