Opening of 1915 Dardanelles Bridge postponed to March 18

President Tayyip Erdogan announced that they would open the 1915 Dardanelles Bridge not on February 26, but on March 18. The foundation of the bridge that will connect the continents of Europe and Asia for the first time in the Dardanelles Strait was laid on 18 March 2017. The bridge was scheduled to open on February 26, which coincides with Erdogan’s birthday.

Criticizing the government, CHP Party Spokesman Faik Öztrak had earlier said “Erdogan always likes to do shows. The date when a bridge to the Dardanelles Strait should be opened is the anniversary of the Dardanelles Victory.”

Erdogan noted in his Twitter post today that the opening date had been changed “at the request of citizens”.
