Hasan Şıldak, the Governor of Şanlıurfa, announced that the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, which was affected by the flood disaster, will reopen to visitors in January. Governor Hasan Şıldak participated in a discussion program with students at the Harran University Osmanbey Campus Faculty of Arts and Sciences Grand Amphitheater.

When students inquired about the current condition of the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, which was affected by the flood disaster on March 15, Şıldak stated that the museum will meet visitors again in January.

“We will reopen our museums, which have a world-class quality, not just on a national scale”

Governor Şıldak explained that the museum suffered damage due to the flood, saying, “The basement and ground floors of our Archaeology and Mosaic Museums were affected by the flood. Water entered these areas, causing damage. The repairs are being carried out by our Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Hopefully, by the end of December, these repair works will be completed. Starting from January, we will reopen not only our museums on a national scale but also those with world-class quality.”

Governor Şıldak also expressed their intention to reopen Urfa Castle, which has been closed since 2018, before the end of the year.

Şıldak added that archaeological excavations are being conducted at 11 different sites simultaneously in Şanlıurfa.
