Toll of the Sacrifice Holiday: 72 Dead, 12,274 Injured

During the traffic accidents over the Kurban Bayramı (Sacrifice) holiday, 72 people lost their lives and 12,274 were injured. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 7,216 traffic accidents had occurred nationwide during the holiday.
The Interior Minister reported that 11,236,000 vehicles had used the highways during the Ramadan Bayram and 21,067,000 vehicles during the Kurban Bayram, indicating an 87.5% increase in vehicle movement.
Regarding the traffic movement, the minister stated, “On the one hand, our expatriates are coming back to their countries, their homeland. On the other hand, there were school holidays on Friday and immediately a holiday eve on Saturday. Sunday was the first day of the holiday, and we knew there would be a flow from major metropolises to rural areas, and the time was very short.”
During the holiday, 3,687,894 vehicles were inspected, and 519,242 actions were taken.
