Top Businessman: It’s not easy to attract investors to countries with a dysfunctional legal system

Ali Koç, Vice Chairman of the Koç Holding Board of Directors and Chairman of the Ford Otosan Board of Directors, stated, “It’s not easy to attract investors to countries with a dysfunctional legal system. It’s never easy.”
Ali Koç made various statements regarding the activities of the holding companies. He mentioned the importance of a functioning legal system for attracting foreign investors while discussing Koç Holding’s activities in Romania.
Koç said, “When it comes to Koç, there are a lot of slander, false information, and wrong accusations. When there is a movement in the stock market, we are blamed. When something happens in TÜSİAD, we are targeted. When we invest abroad, they say we are fleeing the country. Unfortunately, we live in a country where those who speak the truth are required to prove they are telling the truth. Meanwhile, those who lie and make false claims unfortunately manage to hold public attention.”
INVESTORS WANT TO FEEL SAFE
Koç emphasized the significance of the legal system in attracting foreign investors, stating, “It’s not easy to attract investors to countries with a dysfunctional legal system. It’s never easy.”
He continued, “Additionally, there are extraordinary incentives provided by our government. However, investors want to feel secure. They want to foresee their future. Investors don’t want to have to revise their plans in short intervals.”
“There is a tremendous amount of money in the world, and it’s looking for a safe haven. We are in an excellent position. In an environment where new powers, new rules, and new situations are being shaped, especially with the tensions between the West, particularly America, and China, you know what’s happening there,” Koç added.
“We have every opportunity, advantage, and resource to take a significant portion of the trade that the West and China engage in. The current environment offers great opportunities, though it also comes with risks, such as regional wars. However, this is a time rich in commercial and political opportunities. Therefore, we, as a country, need to think bigger,” he concluded.
