Tourism in Turkey: 36.8 million visitors in first 8 months herald new record in 2023

In the first 8 months of 2023, Turkey hosted a total of 36,754,146 visitors. Of these visitors, 33,426,940 were foreigners, and 3,327,206 were Turkish citizens residing abroad. According to the data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the first 8 months of the year, there was a 13.95% increase in the number of foreign visitors compared to the same period last year.

In the ranking of countries that sent the most visitors to Turkey in the first 8 months, compared to the same period last year, the Russian Federation took the first place with a 44.84% increase and 4,351,254 people, followed by Germany with a 6.03% increase and 4,082,994 people, and the United Kingdom with a 12.36% increase and 2,652,188 people. Bulgaria and Iran followed these countries in the ranking.

Germany Tops the List in August

In August of this year, the number of foreign visitors to Turkey increased by 5.65% compared to the same month last year, reaching a total of 6,660,700.

In the ranking of countries that sent the most visitors in August, compared to the same month last year, Germany was in the first place with a 1.52% increase and 871,270 people, followed by the Russian Federation with a 5.68% increase and 852,640 people, and the United Kingdom in third place with a 6.96% increase and 588,448 people. Iran and Poland followed in the ranking.
