Now that Turkey seems to have covid-19 outbreak under control eventually, the tourist season in this country is expected to start beginning of June. Tourism professionals stress that Turkey’s health infrastructure and process management are encouraging and the authorities are determined to see to it that all required strict safety measures against the disease are taken by tourism facilities to prevent further spread of the epidemic.

Earlier this month Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet ERSOY had announced the decision taken by the Ministry to suggest the hotels could be opened end of May.

Within the scope of work carried out by the authority, it is reported that Turkey has also launched the “Healthy Tourism certification program” to be applied this season. The facilities, which certify that they have met the health and hygiene conditions dictated by the program, will be announced by the ministry on 1st of June.

In the meantime, the President of TUROFED (Turkey hoteliers Federation) has made a statement confirming the sector is ready to provide all concerned services and hotels receiving certificates will begin to accept reservations as of June 1. The President has also said the facilities in Turkey have very high standards of Hygiene and quality and shared following:

“We started work on the certification system related to the health of both customers and personnel fast. Following the effects of the outbreak, we are starting to provide services for flights to be opened region by region in line with incoming bookings. We are carrying out our preparation based on our prediction the epidemic will slow down further and that is why we are following the progress momentarily.”

Experts suggest that there will be a gradual increase in domestic tourism. As for foreign tourists Turkey hopes to host this year, the country’s health care infrastructure and the management performance throughout the whole process has helped strengthen the perception of Turkey abroad substantially. This in return is expected to create a demand with flights to be opened abroad in parallel to positive progress in Europe.

Another interesting point is that the closing dates for this season are announced as October 31 – November 7 on various online hotel reservation platforms. Thus it is estimated that those who want to holiday this year but cannot do it in summer months, can extend the season in various regions until the new-year.
