A Winter Classic Returns to the Rails

One of winter tourism’s most iconic rail journeys in Turkey, the Touristic Eastern Express, is set to begin its first trip of the 2025–2026 season tomorrow. Operating on the Ankara–Kars route, the train will run reciprocal services twice a week, with ticket prices starting from 14,000 Turkish lira.

Strong Demand from Local and International Travelers

Launched through a collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Touristic Eastern Express has become a seasonal favorite for both domestic and foreign visitors. Known for its scenic landscapes and cultural stops, the train once again takes to the rails as one of the highlights of the winter travel calendar.

Weekly Schedule on the Ankara–Kars Line

During the 2025–2026 winter season, departures from Ankara will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while trains from Kars will depart on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Despite multiple departure days, the service is organized as two reciprocal train journeys per week.

Ticket Options and Sales Channels

Tickets for the Touristic Eastern Express are available in two formats: individual ticket sales and organized tour packages. Individual tickets can be purchased through TCDD Taşımacılık’s official sales channels, while tour packages are offered by authorized travel agencies.

Pricing Details for the Season

Each sleeping compartment accommodates two passengers. Until 14 January, ticket prices on the Ankara–Kars route are set at 14,000 lira for two people, while fares on the Kars–Ankara route start from 12,000 lira. From 16 January onward, prices will increase, with Ankara departures starting at 17,000 lira and Kars departures beginning at 15,000 lira.
