Trade with Iraq to Reach 12 Billion Dollars in 2011

“Trade with Iraq will reach to 12 billion dollars this year”

Çağlayan announces that this year’s trade volume target with Iraq is at 12 billion dollars. Last year, the trade volume between Turkey and Iraq reached 7.4 billion dollars.

State Minister Zafer Çağlayan has expressed that the trade volume between Turkey and Iraq, which was 7.4 billion dollars last year, is expected to grow significantly this year.

“We want to bring our foreign trade volume up to 12 billion dollars by the end of this year.”

Drawing attention to the fact that over 260 Turkish contractor firms in Iraq are currently successfully undertaking 587 projects worth 11 billion dollars, Çağlayan states that Turkey is amongst one of countries to have the highest number of internationally operating contractor firms and in terms of product cost, comes in first in the Middle East and fifth worldwide.

Speaking with Iraq’s Minister of Public Works and Housing Muhammed Darraji, Çağlayan both concurred their support for the establishing of a Turkey-Iraq Construction Business Council; at in order to even further develop contractor relations. Çağlayan also noted, “We will not allow for any contractor to miss their deadline nor do poor work. You can place eternal trust in Turkey’s engineering and consulting sectors.”
