Located within the boundaries of the Gevaş district and accessible by a half-hour boat ride on Lake Van, the island hosts visitors with a different view in every season. In spring, the blossoms of almond trees, and in summer, the unique blue of Lake Van, complemented by the view of the island and its church is captivating visitors. After the recent snow fall, the island and the church are covered in snow.
Visitors and photography enthusiasts visiting the island photograph the snow-covered island and church with their mobile phones and cameras. Down below are comments by some of the visitors coming to the island:
A visitor said he had come to capture the island after the snowfall.
Another visitor who climbed to the summit to capture the overall view of the island, said, “We took very beautiful photos with my friends. The island has received a lot of snow. When you climb to the top, we try to immortalize Akdamar, Lake Van, Mount Artos, trees, and the snowy white nature with our photos.
Another visitor who came from Istanbul, said they had organized a tour to see the eastern provinces and did not want to leave without seeing Akdamar Island.
Same visitor said, “Everyone should come here whenever they have the opportunity and see these beauties in person. It’s a magnificent atmosphere. Especially, they should prefer snowy weather because it’s extremely beautiful.”
Another visitor who expressed that he liked Van more each time he visited, said, “When the unknown aspects are reinforced with felt emotions, it becomes even more enjoyable. I couldn’t come to Akdamar on my first visit, but this time I was lucky and enjoyed it a lot. It’s a magnificent geography. It needs to be valued and talked about more. Local governments also have a big role to play here. I believe that these places need to be promoted.”
