Travel Turkey: Antalya Hotels Cut Prices Below Early Booking Rates 2025

Antalya’s tourism industry is facing a tough season as hotels, struggling with low occupancy, have dropped prices below even early booking rates. The ambitious target of 18 million tourists in 2025 now seems out of reach.

Hotels Forced to Cut Prices Despite Losses

Speaking to Nefes Gazetesi, Professional Hotel Managers Association (POYD) President Hakan Saatçioğlu laid out the challenges in stark detail. He explained that early booking sales fell short of expectations this year. Only about 15 percent of hotels benefited by offering lower rates early on, while most properties failed to secure sufficient reservations.

Saatçioğlu emphasized that hotels had no choice but to cut prices, even if it meant major profit losses:
“Hoteliers don’t have the luxury of keeping rooms empty. To fill capacity, they were forced into deep discounts during peak season.”

Trust in Early Booking Discounts Declines

The heavy discounts rolled out during the season are now shaking travelers’ trust in early booking deals. According to Saatçioğlu, many vacationers who booked early feel they gained no advantage when they saw the last-minute price drops. This shift, he warned, could seriously damage demand for early booking campaigns next year.

With schools reopening, hotels have already started applying discounts between 20 and 40 percent. Despite this, fall season occupancy has reached only around 70 percent so far.

A Difficult Winter Ahead for Antalya

Saatçioğlu also drew attention to Antalya losing ground while rival destinations are gaining. He pointed to Egypt, which saw a 15 percent increase in tourist arrivals in the early months of last year. With its climate advantage and transition to an all-inclusive system, Egypt is expected to continue attracting more travelers.

“This winter will be very difficult for Antalya,” Saatçioğlu warned, underlining the sector’s growing concerns about off-season performance.
