Tripolis is an important ancient city located near Yenicekent in Buldan district of Denizli, Turkey, on the banks of the Büyük Menderes River. Thanks to its location, the city was a strategic center for trade, agriculture, and transportation throughout antiquity.

The history of Tripolis dates back to the Hellenistic period. It was first known as Apollonia, later briefly called Antoniopolis, and eventually became known as Tripolis. The name means “three cities” and reflects its position at the intersection of the ancient regions of Lydia, Phrygia, and Caria.

Tripolis experienced its greatest development during the Roman period, when it became a well-planned city with colonnaded streets, baths, an agora, a theater, and monumental public buildings. Archaeological evidence shows that settlement in the area dates back to around 5500 BC, and the city remained inhabited until the 13th century AD.

Excavations at Tripolis are carried out by Pamukkale University and have revealed Roman villas, mosaics, frescoes, and residential structures, offering valuable insights into daily life in antiquity.
