Trump Responds: Will the US Sell F-35 Fighter Jets to Turkey?
“We Are Seriously Considering It”: US President Donald Trump has responded to questions about a possible F-35 fighter jet sale to Turkey, saying, “We are seriously considering this.”
Trump made the remarks after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida, where the two leaders discussed the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire.
Speaking to members of the press following the meeting, Trump emphasized his personal relationship with Turkey’s leader, saying:
“I know President Erdoğan very well, and as you all know, he is a very good friend of mine. I trust him and I respect him. Netanyahu also respects him.”
When asked directly about the F-35 issue, Trump reiterated that the matter is being taken seriously and added, “I promise, the F-35s will not be used against Israel.”
Strong Warnings Directed at Iran
Trump also made pointed remarks about Iran, stating that he would support a rapid strike if Tehran continues developing its missile or nuclear programs.
“If they continue with their nuclear program, the strike should happen immediately,” Trump said, adding that Iran’s power has already been significantly weakened. He claimed that without US actions against Iran, peace in the Middle East and recent agreements would not have been possible.
“I hear Iran is trying to rebuild its strength. If that’s true, we’ll have to hit them,” he added.
Comments on Syria and Regional Stability
Responding to a question about Syria, Trump said he hopes Netanyahu maintains good relations with Syria, noting that US sanctions on Syria have been lifted.
He referred to Syria’s new president, Ahmed Shara, describing him as “a tough figure” who is working hard. “We want Syria to survive,” Trump said, adding that Syria was also discussed during the talks.
Trump also commented on the possibility of a pardon for Netanyahu, calling him a wartime leader and a hero. He said Israeli President Isaac Herzog had told him such a move was already in progress.
Netanyahu: “A Peaceful Border with Syria Is in Our Interest”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking after the meeting, said Israel’s interest lies in having a peaceful border with Syria and ensuring security in nearby border regions.
He emphasized the importance of protecting Druze communities, as well as other minorities, particularly Christians, in Syria, the wider Middle East, and even parts of Africa such as Nigeria.
Netanyahu described Trump as Israel’s strongest ally among all US presidents, noting that while they may occasionally disagree, the Florida meeting was “highly productive.” He also announced that Israel will award Trump the Israel Prize, breaking tradition by granting it to a non-citizen.
Gaza, Venezuela, and a Call with Putin
Asked about Gaza’s future governance, Netanyahu said President Trump had clearly outlined the reforms he expects from the Palestinian Authority before it could play any role in Gaza’s administration.
Trump also confirmed reports that the US had struck a port area in Venezuela, claiming it was being used to load drugs onto boats. “There is no port there anymore,” he said.
In addition, Trump revealed details from a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying Putin told him that Ukrainians had attacked their own facilities. “I didn’t like that,” Trump commented.
