Istanbul Governor’s Office Announces New Year Security Measures

Heavy Vehicle Entry Banned in Eight Districts

The Istanbul Governor’s Office has announced comprehensive New Year security measures aimed at ensuring that residents and visitors can welcome the new year in peace and safety across the city.

According to the statement, security forces will be deployed throughout Istanbul, with more than 50,000 personnel on duty. Health services, fire brigades, and emergency response teams will remain on 24-hour alert during the holiday period.

Citywide Inspections and 24/7 Emergency Readiness

The Governor’s Office stated that inspections will be carried out across the entire city, with particular focus on shopping malls, airports, bus terminals, public transportation hubs, and public squares and entertainment venues where New Year celebrations are expected to take place.

All hospitals in Istanbul will continue to provide round-the-clock healthcare services, while emergency medical teams will remain on duty throughout the city. Disaster and emergency units, including AFAD, AKOM, and fire services, will stay on high alert against fires and other potential risks. Authorities also confirmed that precautions have been taken to respond swiftly to any telephone, electricity, water, or natural gas disruptions.

Temporary Ban on Heavy Vehicles in Central Districts

As part of the New Year measures, the Governor’s Office also announced a temporary ban on heavy vehicles and construction machinery in several central districts.

Heavy-tonnage vehicles and work machines will not be allowed to enter Sarıyer, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Fatih, Bakırköy, Zeytinburnu, and Kadıköy from 08:00 on December 31 until 12:00 on January 1.

In its statement, the Governor’s Office emphasized that all necessary measures have been taken to allow Istanbul to welcome the new year safely, peacefully, and with joy, reaffirming the commitment of all public institutions to maintaining public order and protecting citizens throughout the celebrations.
