Turkey and South Korea target to enhance cooperation in defense and arms industry

Turkey and South Korea have reached an agreement to sign a military pact in the future with the aim of enhancing cooperation in defense and the arms industry, according to Yonhap news agency.

According to a statement from the South Korean Ministry of National Defense, Turkish Deputy Minister of National Defense met with his South Korean counterpart. It was noted that after the deputy ministers complete internal procedures, they had agreed to sign a military agreement at an appropriate time in the future.

The statement also included following expression by Shin; “The two brotherly countries actively pursue their strategic partnership in the defense field and arms industry cooperation.” During their meeting, both parties reportedly agreed to continue developing mutually beneficial cooperation between the defense companies of both countries, including the advancement of projects such as the development of ALTAY tanks.

It was also noted that Turkish part was in Seoul to participate in a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the South Korean Armed Forces.
