Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Natural Gas Pipeline, President Erdoğan said, “Our partnership with Azerbaijan in the field of energy will deepen and contribute to Europe’s energy supply security.” He emphasized the unique position of Turkey-Azerbaijan relations in the world, referring to them as “one nation, two states,” and expressed their commitment to strengthen relations and cooperation in all areas.

Erdoğan highlighted that the Shusha Declaration they signed with Aliyev had marked a turning point in elevating relations to the level of allies and emphasized the special significance of Nakhchivan in Azerbaijan’s historical context. He also mentioned that Nakhchivan continued to hold great potential in terms of economics, transportation, and energy infrastructure.

Erdoğan also noted following; “With the establishment of regional transportation lines, we will have the opportunity to fully realize this potential. The importance of the East-West Middle Corridor through the Caspian has become even more apparent due to the coronavirus pandemic and conflicts in our region. In this regard, the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Natural Gas Pipeline Project, for which we have laid the foundation just now, will further deepen our partnership with Azerbaijan in the energy sector and contribute to Europe’s energy supply security. In addition to the Kars-Nakhchivan Railway project, agreements have been signed in the fields of mass housing and electricity. This once again demonstrates our determination to enhance our relations in the areas of transportation, logistics, and energy.”
