After the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, CHP Spokesperson Faik Öztrak held a press conference at the party’s headquarters. The key points from Öztrak’s speech, as reported by ANKA, are as follows:

It has been two years since Erdoğan made his first interest rate cut, going against the tide. After the elections in May, the “fake economist” suddently transformed. And what a transformation it was! He handed over the economy to the minister he had previously branded as a swindler and the Central Bank governor he imported from the U.S. Their first act was to declare Erdoğan’s previous policies as irrational. In just three months, they quadrupled the policy interest rate, which was at 8.5% before the election. Erdoğan’s adventure with interest rates left behind a huge wreckage.

Everyone knows that the inflation in our country is not due to global factors; it’s entirely Erdoğan’s doing, thanks to his homemade crisis. Now, along with his new image in the U.S., Erdoğan is claiming that they will reduce inflation in the first quarter of 2024. He has already written off 2023 and is setting his sights on the next year.

Before the election, oil was gushing from all corners of the country (the image spread by ruling party). There was even a story that a type of oil was discovered that could be poured directly into tractors to make them work. Now, diesel and gasoline have both reached 40 liras. If you buy 200 liras’ worth of fuel, the gauge doesn’t even move from the red.

This government cannot solve any of the problems of this country or its people. They have proven this with their actions (as well as actions they have not taken) after the election. Now Erdoğan wants to try every means possible to win the election with a party vote that has fallen below 30%. His only hope is to somehow dismantle the opposition. He wants to take over 100% of the country with 30% of the vote. In pro-government newspapers, they cover up the failures of their own municipalities, while trying to tarnish our municipalities.
