Turkey beat Great Britain 85-71 in basketball at the FIBA 2023 World Cup Europe Qualifier

TURKEY GREAT BRITAIN BASKETBALL MATCH

Turkey’s National Men’s Basketball Team beat Great Britain 85-71 away in the final match of the first round of the FIBA 2023 World Cup Europe Qualification Group B. After this result, Turkish National Team completed the first round qualification with 2 wins. They will now face Latvia, Belgium and Serbia in the second round of the qualifiers.

Turkish team started the competition well at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle, England, and produced score with Larkin, Buğrahan, and Sertaç. Turkey was leading 13-5 lead in the first five minute, could not prevent Olaseni from under the pot, Hesson and Whelan’s baskets from the outside to make it 8-0 in the series and the difference decreased to 2 points (11-13).

The home team, which played effectively using outside shootout, took the lead with Clark’s point at 8th minute with 16-15.

Turkey, motivated by Şehmus and Melih, finished the first quarter with a 20-18 lead.

Turkey did not start the second quarter well and fell back 24-22.

Turkey who had control of the game in the third quarter, managed to keep the difference in double digits. The last quarter of the competition was led by Turkey with a 62-51 advantage.

Turkey, who entered the last period with a 4-0 series and eventually found a 19-point difference (58-77).

Great Britain, on the other hand, tried to melt the difference by producing a score from the free throw line but failed to close the gap.

Finally Turkey won the game 85-71.

With this result, Turkish National Team completed the first round qualification with 2 wins. They will now face Latvia, Belgium and Serbia in the second round of the qualifiers.
