Turkey determined to achieve a trade volume of US$ 100 billion with Russian Federation

Turkish-Russian relations are going through a very strong period that has never been experienced in history of two countries. Indeed, the more so after the cooperation between Putin and Erdogan have proved to generate some positive results regarding Syria conflict. Needless to say two countries have also made some mutual engagements in the field of economy and agreed on giant projects such as construction of a nuclear plant in Turkey.

Within the scope of cooperation between two countries President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin participated in the ceremony of “Completion of the Maritime Section of the Turkish Stream Project” which is supposed to bolster Turkey’ and Europe’s energy security.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Istanbul Congress Center, Erdogan shared following statements:

“We are delighted that the Turkish Stream gas pipeline has reached our country from the bottom of the Black Sea. We have now come to the last stage of this historical project. The construction of the reception terminal in Turkey is continuing rapidly and we plan to transfer at least half of the gas to be transported via this system, to Europe.

Turkey will be able to meet the demand of European countries as well as its domestic demand without being exposed to any transit risks.

I believe that together with our Russian friends, we have implemented a technically challenging project with sustainability standards, raising the standards of the sector.

Everybody  should respect where and how a country prefers to obtain natural gas according to its own conditions. For us, Russia is a reliable friend and supplier of natural gas, which we can cooperate for long term. We have never determined our relations with Russia according to the impositions of other countries.

Our cooperation with the Russian Federation is progressing in a wide range. We have seen that our common stance has contributed to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Syria. On the other hand we are going to accomplish Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Our goal is to reach $ 100 billion trade volume. We will celebrate 2019 with Russia as the year of mutual culture and tourism.

On the other hand President Putin also delivered a speech and supported Erdogan’s statements saying “We have succeeded with China, why not with Turkey?”.
