Turkey: Rise of 3,27 percent in price index recorded for October 2011

Turkish Statistical Institute announced Consumer Prices Index for October 2011 by a press release on Thursday.

According to the report monthly change in CPI was realised by 3,27%.

The report also said a rise in general index had been realised in the 2003 based Consumer Price Index on the previous month by 3,27%, on December of the previous year by 7,95%, on same month of the previous year by 7,66% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 5,93% in October 2011.

The figures announced seem to be higher than expectations but they are not like to have a big impact on year end targets, experts have commented.

According to the report, the highest monthly increase was 14,11% in the index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco by main expenditure groups. The indices rose for clothing and footwear 7,99%, for food and non-alcoholic beverages 4,04%, for housing 3,59%, for furnishings and household equipment 1,61%, for recreation and culture 1,08%, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 1,00%, for transportation 0,61%, for communication 0,57%, for education 0,24%, for health 0,03%, while the index for miscellaneous goods and services -0,96% declined.

The highest increase was 18,05% in the index for miscellaneous goods and services compared with the same month of the previous year. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (15,05%), transportation (14,35%), furnishings and household equipment (10,49%), housing (8,85%), hotels, cafes and restaurants (8,28%) were the other indices where high increases were realised.

The highest monthly increase in CPI by regional basis was in TR22 (Balıkesir, Çanakkale) (3,93%). The highest increases in CPI were recorded in TRA1 (Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt) region (10,04%) compared with December of the previous year, in TRA1 (Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt) region (10,44%) compared with the same month of the previous year and in TRA1 (Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt) region (7,76%) on the twelve months moving averages basis.

In October 2011 within average prices of 445 items in the index, average prices of 71 items remained unchanged while average prices of 321 items increased and average prices of 53 items decreased.
