Imams in mosques all around Turkey read out a speech, prepared by the Religious Affairs Directorate to mark the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, in Friday prayers.

The Friday prayer speech stressed that violence, pressure and degradation were a crime against everybody, and defined women as the reason for existence of humanity.

In the speeches, imams said that women were facing pressure and violence in many places around the world, and noted that Islam had taught humanity that women and girls were people who deserved respect the most.

“The aim of our religion is to build virtuous individuals as well as a virtuous community which does not approve discrimination among men and women and in which every one’s rights are respected,” imams said.
