Turkey launches first domestically produced satellite into space

Turkey launched GOKTURK 2, its first domestically produced satellite into space on 18th December 2012.

Göktürk-2, Turkey’s first domestically produced earth observation satellite was launched from Jiuquan Space Station in China.

Turkey had taken its first major step in space race by launching its first satellite called RASAT 18 months ago. Today, this country has has made an important statement by launching its second satellite after 18 months only.

Göktürk-2 which wieghs 450 kilograms was financed by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

All computer software and the computer for the satellite were fully manufactured in Turkey and the satellite was tested in France.
