Turkey ranks as an unlivable country for retirees with 10,000 TL retirement pension, only

While retirees in Turkey rank last in terms of income, they only manage to surpass India in terms of quality of life. Turkey has been consistently declining in the “Retirees League” since 2018.
Retirees are left in poverty with a minimum retirement pension of 10,000 Turkish Lira, while according to a study covering 44 countries, Turkish retirees are in a state of almost being “unlivable.”
An American company published a study revealing how far behind retirees in Turkey are in terms of income and quality of life compared to other countries.
When selecting the most livable countries for retirees, factors such as healthcare, quality of life, financial well-being, and retirees’ incomes were taken into account. According to the research, in the “Global Retirement Index,” Turkey shared second to last place among 44 countries with 36 percent. The only country worse than Turkey, with 10 percent, was India.
Brazilian retirees, with 36 percent, shared second to last place with Turkish retirees, while Mexico and Colombia also entered the ranks of the “least livable countries for retirement.” Norway received the highest scores in the index with 83 percent, followed by Switzerland with 82 percent and Ireland with 81 percent.
A SHARP DECLINE AFTER 2018
When looking at the subheadings used to calculate the index, retirees in Turkey ranked last in terms of income. While the financial income score of retirees in Turkey was 47 percent, Russia and Greece followed Turkey with 49 percent.
The report also revealed how much the quality of life for retirees in Turkey has declined since the transition to the presidential system. Turkey was among the “livable” countries for retirees in the reports of 2017 and 2018. However, with the economic policies implemented in recent years and the declining purchasing power of retirees, Turkey is now at the bottom of the list.
NORWAY FIRST, TURKEY LAST
In terms of quality of life, Turkish retirees rank last in Europe. The first European country following Turkey, Russia, is 9 points ahead of us with 45 percent. In the global ranking, Turkey only manages to surpass India in terms of retirees’ quality of life.
The quality of life for a Norwegian retiree at the top of the list was calculated as 87 percent, while a Swiss retiree was 86 percent. The quality of life for retirees in all the countries in the top 15 was measured at over 80 percent. The measured quality of life for Turkish retirees was only 25 percent.
