Turkey: Record increase in bridge and highway tolls

An explanation came from the General Directorate of Highways

The news that the tolls from the Osmangazi Bridge were increased and the most suitable vehicle crossing was 410 liras were on the agenda, today. The expected announcement came from the Ministry of Transport and the General Directorate of Highways on the subject.

MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT: THERE IS NO PRICE HIKE

In a statement made on the Twitter account of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said, “There is no increase in bridge and highway tolls. Do not believe fake news.”

After the announcement of the “new minimum wage with about 50 percent only” (compared to 6 months ago), the Special Communication Tax was increased by 122.93 percent, the Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) by 61.5 percent and many taxes, fees and services were greatly increased. One of them is the bridge and highway tolls. As of January 1, 2023, increased prices will be applied.

According to report on media, the new Year’s prices, which began to be announced one after the other, were largely hike-oriented. Bridge and highway tolls increased by 2023 percent right after end of 2022. For example, the cheapest crossing fee of Osmangazi Bridge was 129 TL at the beginning of 2022, while it went up to 287 TL with the new-year.
