Turkey remembers victims of Srebnica massacre

Thousands of grieving Bosnians yesterday buried hundreds of newly identified victims of the notorious Srebrenica massacre, expressing hope that now that Serbian commander Ratko Mladic is on trial, justice may finally be done.

Turkey stood in solidarity with Bosnian Muslims to commemorate the massacre’s 16th anniversary.

“We share deeply the grief of the families of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide committed in 1995 and once again strongly condemn this heinous crime against humanity that resulted in the murder of more than 8,000 of our Bosniak brothers,” said a Foreign Ministry statement.

Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc was in Bosnia and Herzegovina to take part in a ceremony to commemorate the victims of the massacre.

“Today, I am in Srebrenica,” he said. “I am in a city where nearly 10,000 Muslim Bosnians were viciously killed and human dignity was trampled upon. I represent my country at a ceremony held in the memory of a people who faced genocide. We will never forget Srebrenica and we will never let it happen again.”
