Davutoglu calls for new P5+1 negotiations over Iranian nuclear program

Turkey hopes that negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 countries over the Iranian nuclear issue are restarted, said Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu after meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad late Monday.

“We are willing to do whatever we can on this matter,” Davutoglu was quoted as saying.

During his trip, Davutoglu also spoke with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili about recent events, particularly those in Syria.

Davutoglu, pointing to how the last Iranian nuclear negotiations took place in Istanbul, said he had been informed of a new letter sent to Jalili by European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton. “The Iranian side said they were ready to have negotiations again in Istanbul,” Davutoglu said.
