Turkey’s unemployment rate continued to fall with the country’s unemployment being registered at 9.2 percent in June 2011, according to data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) on Thursday.

TurkStat said the unemployment rate fell to 9.2 percent in June, down from 10.5 percent in the same period of last year. According to TurkStat’s data, the number of people unemployed in the country now stands at 2.53 million and the number of those employed at 24.90 million.

Observers argue that stable growth in Turkey’s economy would drive the country’s jobless rate further down through the end of the year. Turkey registered the world’s fastest economic growth with 11 percent in the first quarter over the same months in 2010.

Turkey’s gross domestic product (GDP) clinched an 8.8 percent growth rate, amounting to $15.5 billion, in the April-June period of this year over the same period a year ago, maintaining the strong performance it has displayed over the past months.
