OPPOSITION LEADER ANNOUNCEMENT

BARIS PEHLIVAN, a prominent journalist writing for Cumhuriyet newspaper has said in his article that senior executives from the CHP, the GOOD Party, the Felicity Party, the DEVA Party, the Future Party and the Democratic Party will meet at the Parliament on October 5 and begin their work to determine the presidential candidate for elections to come in 2023 (if not earlier). The journalist also noted following: “The executives will aim to describe a president who is not even a member of the party”.

In his article, Pehlivan said that 6 opposition parties had met twice for nomination talks and that they would determine the paths to follow in the nomination and possible election process in their third meeting. Stating that final arrangements would be made on a text called the “Basic Principles Document” on October 5, the journalist quoted three titles he had received from different parties as follows:

“I asked the sources from different parties about what they would write in that document. Three titles were featured:
– A president who is not even a member of the party, will be described.
– An “easy to establish parliamentary system” in which it will be difficult to bring down the government will be introduced.
– It will be explained how to reorganize the Board of Judges and Prosecutors for an independent judiciary, perhaps under another name.”

6 LEADERS WILL MAKE COMMON ANNOUNCEMENT

6 Leaders will announce the candidate together, Pahlivan said, and quoted:

“Among the notes I received, the most striking one was at the end. As it is expected the joint text prepared will be made public together with the heads of the CHP, the GOOD Party, the Happiness Party, the Democratic Party, the Future Party and the DEVA Party. The fact that six opposition party leaders will face cameras side by side is considered a challenge.”
