Turkey’s packaging sector targets US$ 5 billion in exports in 2018

Turkey’s Packaging Manufacturers Association has issued a statement saying the sector targets to reach and export figure of between US$ 4.5-5 billion minimum. The officials have also stated that a market size of US$ 23 billion would be possible to reach.

Mr. Zeki SARIBEKIR, the Chairman of the Board of Directors stated that as ASD they worked hard for the development of the packaging sector which made a major contribution to the national economy.

The chairman went on to say “We believe that we will provide a $ 350 billion economic movement through packaging. As a sector, our competitiveness and potential are high and Turkey’s packaging industry products are exported to 180 countries around the world. Turkey packaging industry, walks consistently on the way to becoming a center of packaging in Eurasia. We believe that we will reach a market size of US$ 30 billion and our export target of 10 billion dollars by 2023”.

Mr. SARIBEKIR also said, “As a country, we must sell packaging products to more countries in this period. We must increase the number of markets. We have to export at least half of what we produce”.

Referring to the recent situation of the sector, he said, “In the first half of 2018, our sector achieved exports of US$ 2 billion 306 million and realized US$ 1 billion 767 million in imports. Focusing on value-added production, our packaging industry continued to grow and gave a total of US$ 539 million trade surplus in the first six months of 2018. When compared to the same period of the previous year the amount of packaging exports increased by 8 and 17 percent, respectively. Turkey’s packaging industrialists, continue to enter new markets. “
