Turkey’s Rönesans Construction Group to Protect the Netherlands from Flooding for 100 Years
Rönesans Holding, in collaboration with the Dutch company Ballast Nedam acquired in 2015, is leading sustainable projects across Europe, focusing on climate crisis mitigation, green energy, and sustainable construction.
Vision for Europe
Since 2009, Rönesans has expanded into Europe by acquiring established companies like PORR, Alpine Bau, Heitkamp, and Ballast Nedam. The latter became profitable within three years of acquisition. The company has executed €40 billion worth of international projects, channeling these revenues into investments in Turkey.
Major Projects
1. Rijnkade Dike Reinforcement (Netherlands)
– Located in the Arnhem region, this project strengthens a 1.2 km dike to increase flood resilience.
– Once completed in 2025, it will protect the area from flooding for 100 years.
– Part of a broader effort to reinforce over 1,500 km of dikes across the Netherlands.
2. Jonas Project (Amsterdam)
– A sustainable residential development in IJburg Bay featuring 273 apartments.
– Sustainable materials include zinc cladding, FSC-certified wood, and eco-friendly cement-based “green” concrete.
– Recycling efforts have achieved a 97% rate by segregating construction waste into seven streams.
– Awarded BREEAM Excellent certifications in 2023 for design, delivery, and use.
3. Windplanblauw (Netherlands)
– Completed between 2021 and 2023, this project replaced 28 outdated turbines with 24 modern, high-capacity models.
– Innovations include integrating land-based turbine foundations with water structures and constructing water-resistant islands.
– The new turbines generate an additional 5.4 MW per unit, reaching approximately 6 MW each.
