TOURISM MINISTER IN QATAR

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy has said that the depreciation of TL has a positive impact on tourism and exports. The Minister made concerned statement to Al Jazeera television in Qatar.

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that Turkey was affected by the pandemic less than Spain and Greece, where it is competing in tourism. He also added that the tourism sector was on the road to recovery at the end of the difficult process.

Tourist target for 2023 was revised to 50 million

Minister Ersoy’s statement to Al Jazeera also showed that Turkey had lowered its 2023 tourist target. Ersoy said in a statement that they aimed to host 50 million tourists and generate $50 billion in tourism revenue in 2023.

Minister draws attention to Qatar’s investment power

Referring to the tourism projects in the Aegean region (Cesme and Didim tourism projects) in his statements, Ersoy said that these projects would serve the economy in Turkey for 50 years. Ersoy’s emphasis on Qatar’s investment power in relation to the issue drew attention.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who also made an assessment of the rapid depreciation of the Turkish lira in recent days, noted that there was an inverse relationship between exports and tourism and the depreciation of the TL. He said exports increased when the TL decreased, and tourism was also positively affected. Ersoy pointed out that higher quality products could be marketed when TL lost value.

Arab tourists spend more

Ersoy said that Arab tourists coming to Turkey spent more than other tourists, adding that there was a decline in the number of Arab tourists.
